When Your Heart’s Not In It

polarizedHmmm, your hearts not in it you say?

I have been in many conversations where I have heard people comment “my hearts just not in it!!” the circumstances have ranged from washing dishes to someone walking away from a job or marriage.  This phrase….this hollow excuse…..this selfish, self-serving group of words makes something stir inside of me every time I hear them spoken. It kinda sits hand in hand with the phrase “God will never give you more than you can handle” with me and every time I see it pinned, shared, posted to someones timeline, I want to scream “Have you ever even read your Bible!!!!!!…….!!!!!!!!!  Throughout scripture you can see God give each that He called more than they could ever handle on their own, because the whole purpose was for them not to be able to handle their circumstances themselves so that they would trust, rely, and put their faith in God, so to glorify His Name, His Kingdom, His Grace, His Mercy, His Love, His Power, His Provision, His Justification, and His Sovereignty to the individual and the broken world, I could go on for days about the blessing within our dry seasons!!!!!

Ok, rant over……….for now lol! Back to our original topic.

When I hear someone say their heart’s not in something I see right though all the fake, sugar-coating and in all reality I see who is controlling their heart and how the enemy has lied to them, deceiving the perception of their situation and I can see him pulling them by the chain he has placed around their neck further and further away from God. The first thing I always want to say to the person is quit being fake and just say you don’t want to, you don’t care how it affects anyone involved, you are only out to fulfill your own desires, and you don’t care the consequences that WILL follow. I am a very black and white, in or out kinda person I don’t see gray areas and riding a fence never sits well with me. I like facts and loath speculation and someone breeding uncertainty. I live life with all my cards on the table so there is no question to where I stand, which is why such as this bothers me.

The other day I was asked why I thought people walked away when the good out weighed the bad, why they changed their mind on something they once were so certain about. My answer was… it’s a heart issue, it doesn’t matter how good something or someone is if you’re not able to see it, accept it, and find contentment within it. The response was “so their hearts not in it”. Where yes that is kinda the issue but it is sooooo much deeper and I think so many times we don’t see the danger that is lurking behind those six little words. To me when someone says their heart isn’t in something, I see the desires of the flesh over shadowing the command of the Spirit. I see Spiritual Warfare in its rawest form. If you dig a little deeper asking why their hearts not in it, I always get, “it’s just not what I want; this isn’t how I saw my life playing out; there has to be something better for me out there….more; I just don’t feel it; and the one that always breaks my heart to hear….life is short, I deserve to be happy or I’ve been through so much, I deserve to be happy. Each statement is riddled with I or Me and screams of the enemy and this broken world. So often we forget the warnings in Gods word on how easily our hearts can be deceived, accepting of speculation and calling uncertainty truth. It’s like the enemy gives you polarized sunglasses to look through, you know the kind, where the grass is greener and the sky is a little bluer, everything looks just a little better and it dims the Light just enough to alter your perception of how you see things and the reality of the world around you.

I guess what I want to get across is that we are not slaves of our hearts because if we are then we are slaves to the enemy and are on the losing side of this war. We must choose to follow the commandments and teachings laid out by God, and fulfilled by His Son. We must choose to do whats right in any situation and not run first to what is comfortable and what feels and looks good at the moment. When we are mesmerized with the greenness of the grass and the hues of blue covering the sky we must look to those around us, those who are begging us to remove the polarized glasses and see we are not walking into something more colorful but stepping out of Gods provision. Fulfillment of the heart is fleeting like this world, but fulfillment of the soul, of the spirit is eternal and everlasting.  Everyday and with every choice we make we choose what side of the war we are on, who our Commander is, what is worth fighting and dying for but most of all we tell this broken world where our Heart lies and what our treasure is!!!

(Matthew 6:19-24)

19Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22The eye is the lamp of the body. If your vision is clear, your whole body will be full of light.23But if your vision is poor, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

  1. This is how I feel about hearing “I fell out of love” or ” I’m just not in love with him/her anymore”. Love is a choice, one that should be made based on God’s word. It’s ok not to like the other person occasionally but you make the choice every day whether you are going to love that person and show them the grace that Christ showed you.
